The Past Few Weeks

Time has really gotten away from me this month! I've been fishing several times, but haven;t sat down to write about it. I made a trip up to Willard to fish for Walleye with Joe and his friend. We hit the dyke around 8 p.m. and fished for a few hours. As usual this year, the south marina inlet was packed with people going after the spawning walleye that are stacked in there this time of year. It was insane to see the amount of vehicles parked along the road. We made it away from the crowd, but the fishing was really slow. You could hear the thrashing walleye along the banks and sometimes it would happen right by your feet, and about give you a heart attack! While it was neat to hear and see them, the Walleye had lock-jaw and wouldn't hit anything. Joe managed to get one right as we were leaving, so at least we didn't get skunked.
A few days later, my wife and I took a walk to a local community pond (Highland Glen). I put my fly rod in the truck to hopefully get a few casts in while we walked the dogs. I ended up fishing for about fifteen minutes and managed a couple small planter Rainbows. The dogs didn't know what to make of the fish at first, and were afraid of them. Would you expect anything different from poodles? While we were there, we spotted a turtle swimming around, which is the first time I've seen one in Utah. Later we saw a couple that had gone out and got him to take a few pictures, afterward releasing him back in the pond.
Now that a lot of the lake's are ice free, I'm really looking forward to getting out and improving with a fly rod. I have a feeling April is going to be a good month!

Joe scored the only Walleye of the night.

It's hard to tell which Ninja Turtle this one is without the colored mask.

  2. Glad to see you are exposing your "furry" companions to other things. Maybe they will think back to their heritage as waterfowl retrievers....then again maybe not.
